indycar.com stating they want that opportunity to beat an 18-year-old, nearly 237mph 4-lap average to exist by 2016 wich will be year two of the body-kits rules. Just think that record was set before some of our readers were born...

is the record so hard to beat because the cars had more powerful motors chassis? I'm interested....

It's probably not a coincidence that '96 - the year that the record was set - was also the year of the CART/IRL split.

Yes. Nearly 900hp at the time. Low aero grip and drag too. Cars now have alot more grip even with the wings dialed out also lowered boost for ovals. They set boost based on track type today. Were only talking about 9mph over last years time but even that they gave extra boost for qualifying only over race boost limits. Once they open open the aero body-kits for use we will see some speed increases.
